Souters are toasting two sweet new partnerships. We have been appointed to manage PR for the Uncle Joe’s confectionery brand and product range and are also launching a strategic relationship with new consumer PR agency Lollipop PR. Souter will be working with Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls to build brand awareness for the nostalgic confectionery range, which was founded in Wigan in 1898 by market stallholder William Santus. Souter’s appointment follows a long tradition of investment in promotion by the Uncle Joe’s brand, including sampling to men queuing in the cold outside football and rugby grounds in the 1930’s and commissioning comedian Mike Harding to write The Uncle Joe’s Mint Ball Song. The activity programme will include consumer and trade PR, establishing strategic partnerships and building digital presence. It will be led by Account Director Emma Beardsley. The win comes at a boom time for the confectionery market, which is forecast to increase by 8.7% (Mintel July 2009) with premium sweets, nostalgia and health benefits key drivers for growth. A second new partner for Souters comes in the form of a collaboration with Emma Beck, MD and founder of Lollipop PR. Beck, formerly co-founder of Brazen and with over 18 years consumer PR experience in London and Manchester, will be working with Sue Souter and her team to focus on building new business, adding value to the current client portfolio and launching a range of new agency services. Lollipop PR also works with a range of clients in the education, family and food sectors. Sue Souter comments: “Uncle Joe’s is a dream win. There is an incredible fondness for this brand and so much potential in a current marketplace tailormade for their offer. We can’t wait to get started. We are also thrilled with our new partnership with Emma. Her track record speaks volumes and she will add considerable weight and experience to our own growth plans to double the size of the Souter business in the next 12 months.” Uncle Joe’s Managing Director John Winnard said: “A product range as individual as ours really demands a PR agency with the same quality – which is just what we found with Souter. PR and harnessing the power of the community played a key part in the growth of the brand in the early 1900s and we will be maintaining that focus, albeit to a much bigger audience in support of national business development targets.” Visit www.uncle-joes.com to learn more!
